Journal: Steinbach MB to Thunder Bay, ON
Destination Thunder Bay: a very creepy room and other issues
6.2.2024
Woke up around 9am. After a cup of my own overnight cold-brewed tea, I meandered over to the inn’s Bistro Cafe. I had an $8 voucher to spend! Woohoo!
Got going about 10:45.
Still a lot of flatness:
Crossing into Ontario, I entered a region of lakes
swamps
and boreal forest
I must admit, the swamp/ forest scenery got kinda repetitive.
Was it the lack of a horizon?
I rolled into Thunder Bay at 8:15.
I was craving Asian Spring Rolls.
All day I’d been craving them.
My target, found on Yelp earlier, closed at 9.
The desk clerk was overly chatty.
He gave me detailed directions to his favorite Asian place “just down the street”.
I didn’t listen.
I had my Yelp directions!
Meanwhile, the room was creepy and the hallway reeked of boiled cabbage.

I dealt with that later. Time to get my Spring Rolls!
FAIL.
Yelp directed me to a place that was closed.
Then I got lost trying to return to the motel.
(Remember, the Nav cycles into the “Rerouting” circle of doom if one goes off-route).
ARGH!
Had a sad McD Filet-O-Fish again, for the WiFi.
On the way back, I passed right by the restaurant I wanted in the first place.
It was closed.
ARGH!
I was Very Grumpy.
Why didn’t I pay attention to the desk clerk?
Back at the Nights Inn, I dealt with the yucky sheets - I deployed my giraffe print cotton flannel duvet cover, that I fold in half. AKA the duvet taco!
And the most curious part was, the next morning I saw housekeeping changing sheets in another room. They were white sheets. I don’t know why I got brown ones.
Day 6 complete. 483 miles, about 7.5 hours.
What a rollercoaster of a day! From tasty Perogies to the hunt for Spring Rolls, your journey had its ups and downs—thanks for sharing the realness!
Hmmm...brown sheets...wonder who made the decision to buy those! I do love pierogies as well as spring rolls! I hope, at some point, you got some!
